The world of special education is a complex one. Special education laws and educational jargon can make the IEP table an overwhelming place. A special education advocate can help form a bridge between a school and family, level the playing field, and make the process easier.
The IEP table can be a scary and intimidating place, but it doesn't have to be. With the help of an advocate, you can remove the fear and anxiety from the special education process and focus on what really matters; your child. An advocate will help ensure that your voice is heard, even when your emotions kick in, and will remain focused on the end goal of getting your child the appropriate education that they deserve.
While Special Education Advocacy of the Carolinas is based in North Carolina, we do not limit our advocacy to that state. We have helped people from North Carolina to Hawaii - and even a military family living overseas!
"I cannot recommend Courtney enough as an advocate if you have a child with social/emotional/behavioral needs. She is knowledgeable, hard-working, not above researching new information, direct, and a fierce advocate. She is not intimidated by school districts that are acting in bad faith. While she can’t guarantee outcomes, she will work tirelessly towards what your child needs and help you get there. She is definitely someone you want on your IEP team."
Courtney was fantastic to work with! She reviewed my son's IEP documents and asked questions during review. She put together a list of suggestions into a proposal for my review prior to attending the scheduled IEP meeting. Courtney attended the meeting virtually and addressed all suggestions in her proposal and we were able to define his goals more appropriately and add accommodations. We were also able to request re-evaluations and additional testing. Her suggestions were those I would not have known to request as a parent.
We wouldn't have made it without Courtney. Despite having seven years experience with our daughter having specialized, tailored learning with an I.E.P (Individualized Education Plan), Courtney was absolutely invaluable in the battle with the school system in order for our child to have a plan that would actually help her both academically, socially, and mentally.
